This community is so narrow-minded and negative. Here we have Anet giving us "another" weekend event with good intentions and all some of you can think of is how much money you're gonna lose if you participate.
Un-install GW and I assure you Anet will never disappoint you or piss you off ever again.

YaY! Go to Resplendent Makuun, bash guys, open locked chests, see if I can get some elite tomes I can use
And better my war's id and chest opening titles.
And more golds to sell to merchant, maybe taking off some good mods to sell for money/use. Or, if really lucky, hit the jackpot on some uber rare weapon that people will buy without me standing there trying to sell for hours, and get enough money to run my account for, oo, lemme see, couple days? :P Seriously, a proper rare skin drop would be awesome, fund me for a long time since not going for any more vabbian. That hurts the bank

Winner.

I fail to see what is wrong with that logic. If you are to have double the chance of successes, isnt that the same as half the number of failures? Even if it's wrong, it certainly doesn't defy logic or common sense, stop being a jerk.
I guess what maybe you could do is...if its 70% gold to 30% grape, thats 7 golds for every 3 grape...if you double that, you'd want 14 gold for every 3 grape...so the probability of getting gold would be 14/17...not sure if that's right.

Sounds reasonable - so the chance for gold would become 82.4%.
Here's another possibility: "Doubling" the chance of a gold would be like allowing me two tries, and letting me keep the best outcome. The chance of getting (at least 1) gold in 2 tries is (1 - (.3)^2) or (1 - .09) or 91%. So let's hope it is that...

This weekend sounds like alot of fun, loseing money or not.
For those of you pondering the math, you have to remember probabilities are not directly additive. So if there is a 70% chance of getting a gold, doubling this does not equal 140%. So no purples arn't gonna fall from the skill. How probabilities work is simply how often can you expect to get something from a pool of somethings. This is often expressed as a % but isn't really.
Example:
You have 10 pairs of socks in a bags
7 pairs gold
3 pairs purple
70% of the time you will get a gold pair of socks. (if they are always pulled in matching pairs.)
I double my gold socks so now I have 14, still have 3 purple socks. My NEW total is 17. 14/17 = .82 or 82%
So I now have a n 82% chance to get a gold pair. See isn't math fun. Another reason to stay in school and not smoke crack.

running NM chest will be more effective this event IMO.
Hard mode chest had a 80% gold drop rate already nm chest with double rare drop rate will be around that as well, but with nm chest comes the higher chance to retain lockpicks ^^
Only downside is see is not getting Elite tomes from chest but overall it sounds nice.

Not to shatter any big hopes out there, but NM chests drop from 20-30% golds is all, while hard mode go from 70-80%. Not sure exactly how anet is "doubling" these rare drops, as we've seen before, it doesn't mean it will be exactly double. But, my main point is, NM will still be worthless compared to HM.
If you have any disputes with my shotty statistics, see my running thread in both service areas (I run quite a bit). It's solely from experience, not actual data. But, its a decent amount of experience.
SO, advice to any future runners out there, stay away form the lure of NM retention, HM is where the golds are.

Thats debatable. i'm not having much luck selling elite tomes atm, plus they all seem to be Ranger, Warrior or Monk...
I just wish they'd stop putting these good chest run weekends on when i have an exam the following Monday!
